While I do think adding a pop of color with your furniture can totally transform your space, there are also times when neutral colors are the way to go. They are versatile and can provide the perfect backdrop to other color and style choices. Here are some of my favorite neutral painted furniture makeovers that I’ve done over the years!

Vintage Painted Dresser With Bun Feet

First up is this vintage dresser painted in a beautiful almond color called Saturday White by Melange Paints. The bun feet were stripped and paint-washed to complement the paint choice. And if you’d like more details, be sure to check out the full makeover.
Greige Painted Dresser

This dresser is just a touch darker and is the perfect taupe! Stone Greige by Melage Paints is great on its own when used in a paint wash. I added some simple oil-rubbed bronze hardware for the perfect modern touch.
Khaki Colored Dresser

Another great neutral, Knapsack Khaki by Melange Paints. It is exactly what it sounds like – a beautiful canvas khaki color with just a hint of a green undertone. In this makeover, it is paired with a stained wood top and antique bronze hardware.
Paint Washed Antique Washstand

While not strictly a painted makeover, I couldn’t leave out a neutral paint-washed piece. A paint wash is a great way to keep a light and raw wood finish, and the antique washstand makeover is a perfect example! Washed with the color Saturday White by Melange Paints.
Dark Brown Painted Dresser

While the rest are on light neutral colors, I had to include this dresser! You may not think brown is a great paint color choice for furniture (stained furniture is already brown), but this dresser makeover proves otherwise. And becuase it’s still a neutral, it can coordinate with most anything! Painted in Maduro Brown by Melange Paints (a discontinued color).
Floral Dresser

Who said neutrals have to be boring? Adding these resin appliques adds a ton of character to this plain Jane maple dresser. Painted in Anemone Pearl by Melange Paints, an almost white with just a hint of green. And be sure to check out all of the details of this applique makeover here.

Paint Dipped MCM Lowboy Dresser

Sometimes you want a painted finish, sometimes a wood finish, and sometimes both! A paint-dipped look can be done with a beautiful neutral to highlight the wood. The top is painted in Toile by Melange Paints (discontinued color) and the bottom paint washed with Turtledove Taupe.
Light Gray Drexel Dresser

Looking for just a hint of color? Then try a very light gray like this one! Sunday Gray by Melage Paints has been discontinued, but you get the idea! Find a gray that you love (and if it’s a bit too dark, you can always add some white paint to it).
Mink Brown Dresser

This color, Mink Brown by Melange Paints, is probably my favorite neutral! It’s not to dark, not too light, and has just a hint of a purple undertone to it that gives it that extra something.
Stenciled Cabinet

When I come across a very plain piece, such as this wooden cabinet, I immediately think of ways to add character to it! I added a stencil to it, which gives it interest, but it stays versatile by keeping the colors tone-on-tone and neutral. The base color is Paperie White, and the stenciled color is Perfect White – both by Melange Paints.
Taupe Campaign-Style Desk

Campaign-style furniture looks great painted in any color! I just love how the hardware pops against the paint. For this desk, I chose Turtledove Taupe by Melange Paints. And guess what? The person who originally gave the desk to me decided they loved it painted in this color and bought it back!
Would you like to save this?
Pure White Dresser

It doesn’t get more classic than black and white. Sometimes you just want a pure white, and that’s exactly what Sonnet White by Melange Paints is. No undertones in this one, just white!
Off-White Nightstand

This champagne-toned off-white pairs perfectly with the updated lucite and gold hardware. And I just love how the paint highlights the details on this piece that you barely noticed before. Painted in Paperie White by Melange Paints.
Off-White Desk

And last, but certainly not least, is this maple desk makeover. The bases were cut, new hardware added, and it was painted in the cool off-white Epiphany Ecru by Melange Paints.
Summary
I hope these neutral painted furniture ideas have inspired you! You can add something classic and timeless to your decor with a neutral and versatile color choice. I’d love to know which one is your favorite? Be sure to let me know in the comments!
