About Me

Hi, I’m Katy Purviance!

What started as a creative solution to furnish our first home on a budget has grown into a deeply fulfilling business, Fresh Take Furnishings. I’ve been refinishing vintage furniture for nearly 20 years (long before “furniture flipping” had a name), and have been featured on the TODAY Show with Jenna and Friends.

Whether I’m painting a piece to sell or sharing how-to tips on the blog, I’m always chasing the same thing: quality work, done with care, and the belief that beautiful furniture should feel personal, not cookie-cutter.

I’m based in West Hartford, Connecticut and sell my furniture pieces nationwide. You can shop available pieces via Etsy or reach out for local custom refinishing if you have a piece you’d love to give a second life. I also offer 1:1 consults and digital tools for fellow refinishers and aspiring flippers.

This space is for the design-minded DIYer and the vintage lover who’s tired of fast furniture and vague advice. If that sounds like you, welcome! You’ll find honest tutorials, real product recommendations, and one-of-a-kind vintage furniture that’s been thoughtfully refinished to last. Don’t forget to join the email list to get first dibs on new pieces, DIY tips, and practical advice straight from my workshop!

Where It All Began

Like a lot of people, we furnished our early homes with a mix of hand-me-downs—pieces passed down from family that were high quality but didn’t quite match our style. So I started figuring out how to make them work. A little paint here, a new finish there… and before long, I was hooked.

My original business name was Furniture Refreshed. I have since evolved into a more encompassing brand, Fresh Take Furnishings, that also features DIY decor beyond furniture.
