Feather Christmas Tree DIY

I saw these on Etsy a few years ago and knew I could easily make these with a few supplies, so I got to work. And when I finished, I loved them even more in person. So I instantly made a few more, and they are now one of my staple Christmas decorations.

Steps to Make a Feather Christmas Tree
Supplies Needed
This is truly an easy DIY project. You only need three supplies, and one of those is a glue gun. I was able to get the foam cones at Michaels and ordered the feathers from Amazon. If you want to pick up the cones on Amazon they also have them, but I had some Micheals rewards I wanted to use. The package of 100 feathers was enough to cover the larger 9-inch cone and most of the smaller 6-inch cone. I did have to open a second package to finish both. I like to use the white foam cones (Michaels also had green) when using white feathers. I have used the green in the past and you need to use more feathers to completely cover the green.
Step 1: Prepare Feathers
I found it easiest to get my feathers sorted a bit before starting. In the package of feathers I purchased the sizes varied slightly. While it doesn’t have to be exact, I found it best to use the larger feathers at the bottom of the tree and the smaller ones at the top.
I also cut the ends of the feathers off before attaching them to the cone. This makes layering the feathers easier and gives a more finished look when they have all been attached.
Step 2: Glue Feathers
Now on to the fun part. I found it easiest to put a drop of glue on the back of the feather, I added a layer of feathers at the base of the cone. Then I continued to layer the feathers from the base up to the top, The feathers have a natural curve to them, and I had them curve out slightly to mimic the curve of evergreen branches. Once i got to the top, I used the points of the feathers to make the top and pinched the foam a bit until I was happy with the shape.
