This antique pine dresser had some beautiful details, but the old finish just wasn’t doing it for me. So I decided to paint it! I wanted to keep its classic feel, so I decided to paint it black and add some new antiqued bronze hardware.

In these quick guides, I walk through the steps and products I used for a particular makeover. Interested in learning more about a particular step or process? For more information, please refer to the links at the bottom of this post, where I provide detailed tutorials on these steps.

Makeover Steps:
- Cleaned and scuff-sanded (using 180 grit) the entire piece.
- Used Bondo to fill in some major dings and dents and left the rest as part of the character and charm of this piece. A large chunk of one of the front legs was missing so I rebuilt that missing chunk with Bondo.
- Did one coat of shellac to seal the pine and prevent any bleed-through.
- Painted in the color Jett Black by Melange Paints.
- Sealed the entire piece with General Finishes High Performance Topcoat, and this brush, designed specifically for topcoats.
- Drawer slides were treated with a drawer lubricant.
- New hardware and drawer liners were added.
