The Best Black Painted Furniture Makeovers!

Sharing is caring!

Want to give your painted furniture a classic look? Then consider black! This timeless color will add a touch of elegance to any piece of furniture and complements just about any style of decor. It’s my most requested color for custom commissioned work. From an accent piece to a statement piece, you can never go wrong with black. And today I’m sharing some of my favorite black painted furniture makeovers – so get ready to be inspired!

1. Antique pine chest

Let’s get started with this simple antique pine chest. Painting it black keeps it classic, pays tribute to the existing style, but gives it a modern touch. Painted in Jett Black by Melange Paints. Jett is a true black with no undertones and is my go-to black. And if you’re interested, check out the rest of the details for this makeover.

2. Library cabinet

This library cabinet was in rough shape when it came to me, but it was definitely worth saving! With some TLC and a fresh coat of paint inside and out this cabinet is ready to be a showstopper again. Painted in Jett Black by Melange Paints.

3. Chippy vintage dresser

A good chippy finish never goes out of style. This vintage dresser was painted in Shackteau Interiors Milk Paint, in the color Black Beach. If you are looking for an antique, old-world painted black finish, look no further! If you haven’t tried milk paint before, check out this tutorial on how to use it.

4. Side tables with gold feet

These French side tables came to me painted in white and gold, but my client was ready for something new. We chose the color London Black by Melange Paints. It’s a black with a slight warm/brown undertone to it.

5. Distressed sideboard

Did I mention that Jett Black is my go-to black? Here is another piece in this color, this time lightly distressed.

6. Hepplewhite-style side tables

These side tables had beautiful brass hardware and edging that was begging to be highlighted! And black paint was the perfect way to do this and keep them super sophisticated. Painted in New York Black by Melange Paints. This is their darkest and most saturated black, with no undertones.

7. Painted leather-top tables

Yes, you can paint leather on top of tables or desks! These two side tables were brought back to life in Jett Black by Melange Paints.

8. MCM tallboy dresser

Guess what, black also looks great on midcentury modern furniture as well. For this makeover, I kept the wood pulls raw (with paint wash) and used Basilisk Black on the body. Basilisk, by Melange, is a bit of a chameleon color, that will show blue, teal, or green undertones depending on your lighting. So much interest and depth to this color!

9. Off Black Buffet

While technically not a true black, this dark charcoal color (Antique Black by Melange paints) is so beautiful that I couldn’t leave it off the list. Perfect when you want a dark neutral color but aren’t looking for black.

10. Rustic Eastlake chest of drawers

Here’s another example of Black Beach milk paint by Shackteau Interiors. This one didn’t have much chipping in the finish (with milk paint you never know what you’re going to get), but with some distressing it is still giving off some major rustic vibes.

11. Classic black sideboard

Last, but certainly not least, is this sideboard painted in Jett Black by Melange paints. The legs were left wood for contrast, and new hardware was added to give this piece a whole new look!

As you can see, both my clients and I love black furniture! It’s always a great choice for most any project, and you know it won’t go out of style. I hope you find these black painted furniture ideas inspiring! Happy painting, friends!
